Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders

AASMB

The Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders Limited (AASMB) is the federal association that represents six state Merino organizations and, through them, the approximately 1300 registered studs in all parts of Australia except the Northern Territory.

The principal aims of the Association are to encourage, promote and foster the breeding and improvement of stud Merino and Poll Merino sheep, and to compile and publish a register of Merino and Poll Merino stud sheep in Australia.

A national leadership course is conducted every two years to ensure future leaders maintain and expand their profile and advocacy role for the Australian Merino industry.  This is funded by various sponsors and is open to young Australians involved in the Merino sheep and wool industries (guideline to age range 18-35).

Registered Stud Merino Breeders strive for excellence and follow 'best practice' in producing healthy animals in an environmentally appropriate way to continually improve the standard of the Merino and Poll Merino breeds.

The AASMB maintains a close interest in matters affecting the stud Merino industry and from time to time is consulted by and/or gives direction to government, statutory authorities, scientific organizations and individuals, both in Australia and overseas.

The Australian Merino Centre in Sydney is responsible for the administration and secretarial functions of the AASMB.
